U.S. Declassified Documents: Declaration of Independence by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman

This collection presents declassified U.S. Department of State documents from 1971, shedding light on American diplomatic and intelligence activity during the Indo-Pakistani Crisis and the birth of Bangladesh. The files include a DIA Spot Report on East Pakistan, a State Department intelligence research study, a diplomatic telegram dated March 31, 1971, minutes from a Washington Special Actions Group (WSAG) meeting on March 26, 1971, and a 13-page chronology of the Indo-Pakistani Crisis compiled by the State Department. Together, these primary sources offer a rare window into U.S. government decision-making during one of the twentieth century’s most consequential geopolitical crises.
